Coal-Fired Power on the Way Out?

by Lester R. Brown

WASHINGTON - The past two years
have witnessed the emergence of a powerful movement opposing the
construction of new coal-fired power plants in the United States.
Initially led by environmental groups, both national and local, it has
since been joined by prominent national political leaders and many
state governors.  read more »

Another threat to Puget Sound

Recent rollbacks to the Clean Water Act have swept away 30 years of
protections for streams, lakes and wetlands across the country, giving
polluters a free pass to pollute in the streams that feed the lakes and
many of the rivers across our state -- streams and rivers that
eventually lead to the Puget Sound.

It's time to protect Puget Sound, and all of our waterways across
Washington. Join
me
in telling Congress to take action now

Buffalo Field Campaign Alert: Bad Precedent! Privatization of Public Land Bison

Please check out Buffalo Field Campaign's importand work defending Yellowstone's remaining wild bison. These amazing creatures roam far by nature. As it stands they are shot and captured as they step over arbitrary boundary lines of a self-proclaimed intelligent species inhabiting the area; mostly in rolling metal boxes propelled by burned petrochemicals.

Six days after heavily armed men took the life of a respected
anti-mining activist in Cabañas, El Salvador, another prominent
community leader has been assassinated. On December 26 at 3:30 pm Dora
?Alicia? Sorto Rodriguez, 32, was killed as she returned from doing
laundry at the river near her home in Cantón Trinidad, in the
municipality of Sensuntepeque, Cabañas. ?Alicia,? as she was known to
friends, was eight months pregnant and carried her 3-year-old son in
her arms as she was shot dead. The child was shot in the foot and is  read more »

Organic Bytes #204: Special Issue! Millions Against Monsanto: Save the Planet

December 17, 2009

Some of these Monsanto-linked appointments are further proof of how dangerous it is to elect a president who the American people trust. The public is deep asleep while a democrat administration legalizes extraordinary rendition, drone bombings of Pakistan, increases in private mercenary warfighting with taxpayer dollars as well as keeping and legalizing civil liberty curtailments of the bush administration. Pandora's box is open and hope is obscuring it's evil outpourings.    -Rick

[David Rovics] Report from Cop-enhagen

The signs up all over the airport and various places elsewhere in town
are calling it Hopenhagen, but everybody I know is calling it
Cop-enhagen, which seems far more appropriate. The international media
has been giving this lots of coverage, and rightly so. Of course much
of the media is unable to walk and chew gum at the same time, so other
things, such as the reason the protests are happening in the first
place, can get lost.

Inside the Bella Center lots of stuff is going on. Namely the US,
Australia and others leading the way in making sure nothing meaningful
takes place there, while many other delegates and activists within try
to make the best of it, or at least make the effort to thoroughly  read more »
