David Rovics and the Goods for Cuba Friendshipment -- TONIGHT in Olympia, TOMORROW in Portland!!
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 06/19/2008 - 22:55.The 19th Annual Caravan for Cuba, sponsored and organized by the Pastors for Peace (http://pastorsforpeace.org), is passing through Washington and Oregon and is in Olympia Washington tonight, June 19th. They're on their way to deliver humanitarian aid to Cuba, in defiance of the 47 year blockade against the island nation.
David Rovics (http://davidrovics.com), activist musician extraordinaire, will be performing at both events.

Hempfield students protest arts cutback

Davis, CA- Student Leaders at Deganawidah-Quetzalcoatl are preparing a demonstration at 5:30 pm tonight in front of the Yolo County Detention Facility after a series of arrests that took place today on D-Q University campus early this morning around 9:30 am. Seventeen Youth and Elders were arrested, most without being given the option of leaving. The Board of Trustees, accompanied by the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department have attempted to remove all the students from campus and brought in a locksmith to replace all the locks. read more »
Berkeley has a Tree Sit on the central part of Campus - 13 days

On February 28 a tree sitter called Fresh climbed into a deodar cedar tree and hung a banner that listed some of the worst injustices at the university. It listed poor treatment of workers, the 13,000 Native American remains that the University stores in a basement under the pool and how the University has helped build every nuclear weapon in the US arsenal. The tree sit attracted lots of attention from students who wanted to know what it was all about and others came to support. read more »

School stops cutting down trees after student protest

More than 200 students walked out of class Thursday afternoon to protest the removal of campus trees for a construction project. Police respond to reports of large protest at Miami school

The disturbance at Miami Edison Senior High School occurred during a protest over the arrest Thursday of another student, a Miami-Dade County schools police spokesman said.
"That protest became very unruly," Charles Hurley, a schools police commander, told WSVN-TV. He said some students threw water bottles, books and other items at police officers. read more »

Sixth-grade students at Carlsbad Middle School walked out of class on Friday in protest.
"We thought we'd stage a peaceful protest to address some issues that the students thought were important, and make our voices heard to the principal," said teacher Lezlie Gravens.
"It's not fair about the seventh and eighth-graders getting laptops and sports and us getting nothing," said sixth-grader Julie Wilcox. read more »
