When a group of Washington state peace activists discovered that one of their fellow organizers was in fact a military informant, they decided to take their case to the courts. The activists, part of the Port Militarization Resistance movement that attempted to stop military shipments from operating out of the state's public ports in Olympia and Tacoma, uncovered the informant after he had infiltrated their group for over two years. Many considered the informant to be a close friend.

In light of the brutal death and destruction wrought on Libya by the relentless US/NATO bombardment, the professed claims of "humanitarian concerns" as grounds for intervention can readily be dismissed as a blatantly specious imperialist ploy in pursuit of "regime change" in that country.

Veterans Day, which Americans celebrate on November 11, was originally called Armistice Day, to commemorate the cessation of fighting in the Great War of 1914-1918. In the United States, the idea that this was “the war to end all wars,” (a phrase coined by H.G. Wells in a pamphlet of that name and echoed by Woodrow Wilson with equal earnestness) was challenged by an outspoken and persecuted peace movement, including poor farmers and black Americans conscripted at disproportionate rates.
