Spring Break 2011 announcement and sign-up form (http://tinyurl.com/nmdspringbreak2011)
Your help in alleviating death and suffering in the desert is needed more now than ever. More bodies of undocumented people have been found this year than have ever before been recorded and the recent elections have put increasingly hateful legislation on the table, jeopardizing the everyday lives of many people living in the United States. The defeat of the DREAM Act and of comprehensive reform requires dramatic action.

Private Prison Industry Behind Arizona’s New Immigration Law

Tiresiasspeaks is a cool source to check out. This is, in my view, an important under-reported story. Corpomedia won't expose tehir buddies in the private prison industry. -Rick

Private Prison Industry Behind Arizona’s New Immigration Law

Arizona seized the international spotlight last April when Governor Jan Brewer signed immigration Bill 1070 into law. The new law requires police officers to arrest any person they stop who cannot immediately prove that they entered the country legally.

Immigrant communities, their sympathizers, and civil liberties advocates have violently condemned the bill as a blatant endorsement of racial profiling that does nothing to address the root causes of illegal immigration.

Private Prison Industry Behind Arizona’s New Immigration Law

We now know that Arizona's controversial immigration bill 1070 was written with the help of the Corrections Corporation of America- the largest private prison company in the nation- in Washington, DC’s Grand Hyatt Hotel in December of 2010.

Olympia to Arizona: SB1070 One Struggle United.

The world was flat and dry with 100+ degree heat as we cruised US-10 past Joshua Tree National Park on the last leg of our 24 hour marathon drive from Olympia to Phoenix. Last Tuesday, Media Island, in partnership with Students for a Democratic Society, sent a diverse group of Olympia activists to travel to Phoenix for Arizona Freedom Summer. Five of us, Yonatan, Angel, Leah, Johnny and I piled into the Media Island Van and took off praying that the old V8 didn't kick the dust. It nearly did- on several occasions- but we made it back to share with you all our experiences.
