Journalist attacked by police while documenting Occupy Wall Street protests
Submitted by victimized on 6 October 2011 - 8:57pmJournalist Luke Rudkowski was attacked by police Wednesday night while trying to document the Occupy Wall Street arrests in NY. NYPD used pepper spray, batons, and brute force to move protesters away from the entrance to Wall Street after many tried to push through police barricades. Rumors immediately circulated that police provocateurs dressed as protesters were to blame for the incident.

The beginning of a year always brings with it a series of promises and illusions and of course 2011 is no different. When the boundry of 12 midnight was crossed, Honduras began a new year in the middle of what can become the most important moment in its political history and at the same time left an unforgettable decade.

Eugene Saturday Market
Eugene, OR- Early this morning activists with Cascadia Rising Tide
deployed a tree sit within the Saturday Market in downtown Eugene. A
platform was rigged around a tree approximately 40 feet from the ground,
and a banner was hung reading “Forest Service: Give Back Trapper. Protect
Our Water.”
The platform is occupied by Grace Warner, who plans to remain through
Saturday to inform Eugene of the horrendous logging practices advocated by
the Forest Service, as well as threats to the drinking water supply that
the Trapper timber sale poses.
Olympia to Arizona: SB1070 One Struggle United.
Submitted by wildleaf on 4 August 2010 - 12:27amThe world was flat and dry with 100+ degree heat as we cruised US-10 past Joshua Tree National Park on the last leg of our 24 hour marathon drive from Olympia to Phoenix. Last Tuesday, Media Island, in partnership with Students for a Democratic Society, sent a diverse group of Olympia activists to travel to Phoenix for Arizona Freedom Summer. Five of us, Yonatan, Angel, Leah, Johnny and I piled into the Media Island Van and took off praying that the old V8 didn't kick the dust. It nearly did- on several occasions- but we made it back to share with you all our experiences.

Port Militarization Resistance: Take 18!
Submitted by wildleaf on 15 October 2009 - 1:33pmPMR is up and active again because the Strikers are expected to return around the October 18-22 through Tacoma. I missed the recent meeting but if you've been to one before you know the drill. It's exciting, intense and never particularly well organized. Which might be why it survives as being one of the most unique parts of the culture of Olympia.
Indy media get ready for some raw footage of young people getting halled away by police dressed like storm troopers while large military vehicles loom in the background? Mainstream media get ready to criticize people standing up for what is obviously right if you cover anything at all?
