Video: Art of the Danforth

Rabble.ca/ - 20 May 2012 - 5:38pm

ART OF THE DANFORTH  is a new art event in East Danforth that opened on Sunday and runs through June 10.

There are art displays, created by both professional artists and community groups, on and near the Danforth between Greenwood & Woodbine Aves – in empty store windows, mounted on walls of operating stores, on the street and in park areas.

Their goals are two-fold: to unify and give voice to the cultural diversity found along the Danforth, and to showcase the artistic talent found in and beyond the community.

Honduras: Violent Repression Being Backed by U.S. and Canada

Mostly Water - 20 May 2012 - 5:28pm

By Graham Russell - Sunday, May 20, 2012

There is no end in sight to violence and repression in Honduras. There is also no end in sight to the United States and Canadian governments and business maintaining political, economic and military relations with the country's military-backed regime...A fundamental, underlying problem is that US and Canadian governments and businesses are maintaining profitable economic and military relations with the Honduran regime, turning a blind eye to, and partially benefiting from the violence, repression and impunity.

In support of striking students in Quebec against the Charest government and Law 78, Occupy Toronto is answering the call from Quebec to bring the spirit of the student strike to Ontario.

Both Quebec and Ontario students have the same demands, accessible education.

In Quebec, the student strike - which sparked the Maple Spring - has been going on for months. 160,000 students are on strike, approximately 35% of the post-secondary student population in the province. Of those, 65,000 are CEGEP students, all in Montreal and surrounding regions.

Call out for a Queer Feminist Insurrectionary Anti-Civ Journal

anarchist News - 20 May 2012 - 1:38pm
Hello! I want to put together a journal in the spirit of Bloodlust, and I am looking for collaborators, contributors, and co-conspirators who want to add discourse potentially serving as a sophisticated introduction to anti-civ theory and practice through a feminist, queer, anti-racist, insurrectionary lens. The deadline is Friday, July 13th.

POTENTIAL TOPICS MIGHT INCLUDE:

+ Magic as an anti-capitalist weapon
+ Support as attack/attack as support
+ Critiques of anti-civ theory (Derrick Jensen's understandings of feminism and gender as somewhat essentialist and how that might inform his relationship with Lierre Keith/ lack of analysis around her transphobia?)
+ Discussions around race/gender/ability pertaining to anti-civ theory and primitivism
+ Critiques of mainstream/liberal/2nd wave feminism: particularly how it seeks to continue to present a white, colonialist, transphobic, “rights” embedded framework
