Events Calendar

Max said that the calendar is too small and we need to make a bigger calendar. Josh said that he would come back and make a bigger calendar. Bruce said that he will help. People could come at 1 pm to help with that.

Volunteer Potluck

The 18th of January was set for a volunteer potluck at 5 P. M. There will be a general meeting as well for volunteers. Max will advertise word of mouth on Facebook and word of mouth. Charlotte volunteered to make a flyer for the event.

Max's project proposals

Max wants to do some queer events.

Max wants to have a social night on Wednesdays (7-10).

Sundays (7 -10) will be another event.

Info shop meetings will be on Sunday from 5 - 6 PM.

We discussed organization of events for men to discuss men's issues and sexism.

We discussed internship sponsorships for Media Island. We discussed recruiting interns and attendance at Evergreen's next intern fair.

Thursday movie nights

This Thursday, December 9 at 7 PM there will be a film 'Occupation Has No Future'. The film is about the occupation in Palestine, comparing the occupation of Iraq with the occupation of Palestine. It will be a ten dollar suggested donation. The filmmaker, David Zutnik, will be here to discuss the film. We have Facebook invitations out to forty people. If anyone knows of a projector and screen to show the film, contact Bruce 360-545-32667.

The next Thursday, December 16, will be slides and the film Broken Rainbow and a report back on the caravan to Big Mountain. The event will be at 7 PM and donations could help support the Black Mesa Indigenous Support.

Then on January 6, Thursday at 7 PM will be a Honduras movie and discussion.

Free Skool Olympia potluck

At 5 PM on Sunday, December 12 there will be a potluck for the Free Skool Olympia.

We discussed having rooms that are safe for children. Charlotte said that the radio studio needs carpeting to help with falling.

We dicussed the nature of the free school and relations between the previous free school group and this new group.

General meetings happen at 2 PM every Sunday at Media Island.

Mural

Charlotte is planning to stay through the holiday season and wants to get ideas for murals. Charlotte plans to have two projects, one that she will do and one that can be more of a community painting. The wall facing the garden on the KOWA building is the wall Charlotte has been thinking about. There is a room inside the KOWA studio for a mural as well. The Mariah Arts organization has expressed interest in doing children's art at Media Island. Charlotte brought up the idea of getting free space walls from the city.

Democritis events

Democritis will have a noon luncheon, a free screening at 5:30 PM, a dinner at 7:00 PM and an 8:00 PM. Democritis wants to do his event every second Friday of the month.

Printer

The printers do not work at Media Island. A lasar printer would be better that inkjet printing. Drew has been maintaining network printing at Media Island for ten years. The printer we have can be moved back down stairs now. Rick will look at the printer for a copying project. Bruce will call Drew about doing some more maintenance work on the printer. We should keep our eyes open for a printer donation.

Honduras accompianment project

Kaitlyn Roberts has been approved to make the witnessing trip to Honduras. Jenny told Kaitlyn that there may be financial support to make the trip. Rick has promoted the tour with Manolla of Pastors for Peace. Kaitlyn could get some support from Pastors for Peace for her trip. Charlotte brought up the idea of the Kick Start Web site to help to solicit donations for Kaitlyns trip. Bruce wants to have an event in January to raise money. Kaitlyn will be in Olympia on the February 15. She plans to leave for Honduras at the end of February.

Front room floor

We discussed a good day to work on the floor. We scheduled Wednesday, December 15.

Media Room

Max wants to put some more time into the media room. We discussed having a phone downstairs and a message pad by that phone. We could also improve the cables and cord placement for the computers. We discussed doing both projects on the same day, Decembe 15. Rick will bring some planks to put computers on in the upstairs area.

Big Mountain caravan report back

Rick will work with Charlotte on a flyer for the event. We need to contact Peala, Nancy and Will to ask them to talk about their experience. The date is December 16 at Media Island at 7 PM.

Staff training

Max wants to get workshops and speakers for core volunteers and staff at Media Island. By next meeting Max will have some dates for the workshops.
